Every year, ODTUG Kscope attendees support the local community through a service project.
This year we're partnering with Boston's Cradles to Crayons.
ODTUG Kscope is a singularly unique event in Oracle user group conferences. One reason is our signature Community Service Day project, during which ODTUG Kscope attendees give back to the local community.
This year, ODTUG has partnered with Cradles to Crayons, an organization dedicated to providing children living in homeless or low-income situations from birth through age 12 with the essential items they need to thrive—at home, at school, and at play. When children lack essential items such as seasonably appropriate clothing, school supplies, and hygiene items, they miss out on having the same opportunities as their peers. Cradles to Crayons provides clothing for a week, shoes, pajamas, socks, underwear, personal items, baby gear, and more. Approximately 250,562 children in Massachusetts live in poverty situations and may not have access to these basic essentials. Cradles to Crayons expects to serve 147,500 children in Massachusetts by the end of this year.
Cradles to Crayons has designed a model of collecting new and like-new children’s items via community drives, drop-boxes, bulk purchases, and corporate donations. Volunteers will process and package the donated items into individualized KidPacks at their Giving Factory warehouse. These bags will then be distributed free of charge to local children in need through a collaborative, statewide network of social service agencies and school partners.
June 27, 2020
ODTUG Kscope attendees will be divided into small groups and assigned to various activities, which include quality checking donations, sorting clothing and other items by size and gender, and preparing KidPacks for specific orders from community partners. This is a great way to get involved and connect with other ODTUGers while you're in Boston.
If you want to join ODTUG Kscope in giving back to this truly amazing organization, sign up today! Space is limited.
Cradles to Crayons relies on the generosity of individuals and community-minded companies to support its mission of providing homeless and low-income children with the essential items they need to thrive in their daily lives. Monetary donations enable Cradles to Crayons’ continued operations and help fill gaps in donated product inventory. Companies or individuals donating more than $300 by May 1, 2020, will have their names or logos featured on the back of the official Kathleen McCasland Community Service Day t-shirt. No donation is too small!
